3. The Car Accident
On the evening of February 5th, 2017, I decided to go with my friend Joe to drop off his wife’s friend at home in Orillia. The drive up was going smooth, but it started to snow heavily. We stopped at a stop sign on Old Barrie Rd. Unbeknownst to all of us, someone who was driving a super heavy duty pick up truck which was hauling two snowmobiles was driving way too fast for the current weather conditions, the driver had to make a hard right into the snowbank to miss rear-ending us head-on. Unfortunately, the heavy trailer made a hard left and hit the back/side of the back-seat door and scraped all along the passenger side.
I was in the back seat on the passenger side. The accident left me in a state where I could barely move and was rushed to Orillia’s Soldier Memorial Hospital. After getting a battery of tests done, I was released approximately four hours later. Once I got home, my wife helped me file an accident claim against the driver and eventually I got approved for physiotherapy and massage therapy which I had to attend three to four times a week for a year! The pain from the accident was so intense, most pain meds would not help, I made an appointment with my doctor and was referred to a cannabis clinic, I was approved for CBD oil and it has helped me a great deal! I still have pain but not as bad as before. I still suffer from debilitating pain.
I cannot stand still in one place for more than two minutes at a time, so simple things like doing the dishes, vacuuming/sweeping, taking a shower or even shaving is extremely hard for me now. My lower back seizes up and spasms, I must sit and take numerous breaks.
MY RETURN TO WORK
After that painful year of rehabilitation, I recovered well enough to return to work, just to find out that my job was ending as the company was closing its Barrie site. I worked there until the final closure date. After approximately two months, I found a job at a call center in Orillia called Nordia. I worked there for approximately seven months but quit as I did not want to work for a call center for the rest of my life.
